ABOUT THIS BIG WORLD

Because Life's Too Big to Travel Small

Hey, great to meet you! I’m Jo, founder of This Big World, lifelong traveller, entrepreneur and full-time nomad who’s spent a fairly ridiculous amount of the last couple of decades exploring the world.

I’ve travelled to more than 45 countries, lived in several of them and had adventures ranging from the absolutely incredible to the “well, that didn’t quite go according to plan.”

And funnily enough, it’s usually the unplanned bits I remember most.

The random restaurant we stumbled across because we took a wrong turn. The conversation with a stranger that completely changed the day. The spontaneous road trip, the weird thing ordered from a menu, the unexpected detour that became the highlight of the trip.

Those are the stories I still tell.

How This Big World Started

The idea behind This Big World came from wanting to create more of those moments.

Travel can become surprisingly predictable if we let it. We research the destination, make a list of the top things to see, visit them, take the obligatory photos and move on to the next place.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeing the big sights. I’ve stood underneath the Eiffel Tower, walked through Times Square, watched the sunset in Santorini and ticked plenty of famous places off my own bucket list.

But I also believe some of the best travel experiences happen when we stop following the itinerary for a while and see what happens.

That’s why I created the This Big World Travel Challenge Cards.

50 scratch-off challenges designed to encourage you to explore differently, try something new, talk to people, taste things, notice more of what’s around you and occasionally step a little outside your comfort zone.

Pick a card. Scratch it. And go.

You never quite know where it might lead.

More Adventures. Better Stories.

This Big World is ultimately about curiosity.

It’s about looking beyond the obvious, saying yes a little more often and remembering that you don’t have to travel halfway around the planet to have an adventure.

The cards can come with you on a bucket-list trip, a weekend away, a road trip or an afternoon exploring somewhere close to home.

I also wanted to create a brilliant gift for the travel lovers in our lives who seem to have everything. Because how many luggage tags, passport holders and travel pillows does one person need?

Instead, you can give them 50 adventures waiting to happen.

And this is only the beginning for This Big World. My goal is to create products that make travelling more fun, spontaneous and memorable, wherever in this big old world you happen to be.

More Adventures. Better Stories.
